Reflection (11/27)

Today we took notes on, and began reading a play called Fences  by August Wilson. Theres also a popular movie about the play. There was a short discussion about how poverty was different than being broke. Lastly learned that Rosalynn Carter’s funeral is tomorrow, which could potentially lead to a lot of traffic in the morning.

Reflection (11/13)

Today, Mr. Rease had a substitute, the sub had a very thick accent and it was hard understanding who's name he was attempting at pronouncing in during roll call. We were given a worksheet on the short story we started last week by James Baldwin. The worksheet was pretty straightforward and simple, so I completed it fairly quickly.

Write About Something You Can't Deny

We all need water, through 'plain water' or any form of liquid. Human intake of H2O is very important in more ways than just quenching thirst. Water helps your body regulate it's temperature, and balance your pH. Even deeper on a molecular level, the consumption of water assists the brain in the creation and use of certain hormones and transportation of toxins out of cells.

Write A Few Pages In Which You Obsess Over Something Meaningless

Timothy was obsessed with a stick. He stole the stick from his friend's yard when he was little and obsessed with the Harry Potter book series. Treated it as his own wand and couldn't fall asleep without it. Being at school he constantly carried it around to feel safe, and he eventually it was his good luck charm. One day one of his friends came to his house and when his friend left, the stick was gone. He accused his friend of stealing it, knowing he knew how important the wand was to him. Tim eventually stopped being friends with him because of it.

Reflection (10/30)

We analyzed and annotated a poem by Lawrence Ferlinghetti called “Constantly Risking Absurdity”. Throughout, he uses an extended metaphor, in which he's comparing a poet to an acrobat, an extended metaphor is the use of a single metaphor or analogy at length in a work of literature. We found the theme to be, ‘Being a creative is not as easy as it may seem.’

Reflection (11/9)

W e completed reading and analyzing, "The Rockpile" by James Baldwin. The story features a black family in Harlem, during the 1930's around the time of the Great Depression. I'm pretty familiar with some of James Baldwin's other works such as "I Am Not Your Negro" and "Another Country", but had never heard about this one. Baldwin's literature is very interesting in my opinion, and he is very well spoken.

Reflection (11/10)

In today's class, we were assigned characters to analyze, from a short story written by a renown author, James Baldwin. We had to apply the S.T.E.A.L acronym to each of the given characters.  S- speech, T- thoughts, E-effect, A- actions, L- looks. The character I was given was Gabriel who's the dad in the story.

Reflection (11/3)

Today in class we took an Illuminate assessment on the poem “Constantly Risking Absurdity” by Lawrence Ferlinghetti.  I got it completed pretty quickly, and was able to use a good amount of time to check over my answers. I was able to log into illuminate home which displayed my score of a 90%, which put me in a good mood for the rest of the day.
