Reflection (12/8)

We completed the American Lit benchmark, and submitted it. I think I did pretty well, and I was able to articulate myself on each written response question.

Reflection (12/7)

Mr. Rease was absent, and the substitute told us we could work on any missing work or work for other classes.

Reflection (12/5)

Today, for the whole period, we got to go to the auditorium and learned about how we can college search using the advanced filters in Naviance. It was exciting seeing all of the illustrious schools I could get into with some of my accomplishments.

Reflection (12/4)

We started the second American Literature benchmark. Mr. Rease suggested we only answer the first twelve questions and completed it on Friday.

Reflection (12/1)

We continued reading the book, “Fences”. Before this, we’d take notes on connotation and denotation. After we took notes we read in small groups until the end of class.

Reflection (11/30)

Today, we read scene two of “Fences”. We then answered some questions, and submitted it at the end of class.

Reflection (11/28)

Today, some students were chosen to be the characters of the play in the book “Fences” by August Wilson. The readers had lots of emotion and it lead the audience to not really get bored at all.

Reflection (11/16)

Today we took the Rockpile assessment and finished it before lunch. After lunch we were given an assignment for today and tomorrow. The assignment is about 4 kids from different countries and how they get to school. We had to watch a film and answer for the assignment as we watched.

Culture Collage

Image
My culture is African American.  My collage includes some of the aspects I associate closest with African-American culture. The top left is fashion, next to it is jazz, under that is dance, to the left of that is soul food, under that is the map of the great migration and to the right of that is art.  I chose fashion because Black Americans have continued to redefine fashion and create new trends. Jazz, because it was the second (I believe) music genre created by African Americans, and we find joy/expression in and through music. I chose dance because black Americans have also redefined/created dance. Food, because African Americans take pride in cooking, presumably as a result of slavery. Lastly, the Great Migration because it had a large effect on how southern African Americans dispersed after slavery towards the North in search of a better life.
